Merle’s New Job: Anything Is Possible in the World of Job Hunting and Interviews!

Hi Ronnie Ann,

I wrote to you almost 2 months ago about a job interview I had with a large university in my area. It was a very interesting experience as you may recall. I didn’t get the job, but received several phone calls from the chair of the search committee indicating her desire to hire me for a second position but could not make it happen because of budget cuts.

It is amazing to me how God is always working behind the scenes. While I was going through the interviewing situation with one college, the director from a smaller college called me about a position she had open. I had talked to this director almost a year ago about another position she had at the time but I was overqualified for it. The position she had open at this time was a much better position then the one I interviewed for at the large university. To make a long story short, I just accepted an offer from this school on last Friday!

I just wanted to send an update and encourage your readers that anything is possible in the world of job hunting and interviewing. Don’t be discouraged by what is not happening. Just keep doing what you know to do, have faith and it will all come to pass!

Thanks for all your encouragement Ronnie.

Oh Merle! Congratulations. I remember you well. This is a FABULOUS story. Thanks for sharing it with us and giving others encouragement. I love your words and, as you see, used some of them in the title.

Job interviews and searches are some of the most frustrating, nerve-wracking experiences we ever go through. When you are in the middle of it, it’s so hard to think about the bigger picture and how all these pieces might one day work out just right for us.

Your story is a great example of why it pays to just keep going, pursuing what it is we really want with as much positive energy and belief in ourselves we can muster – and not waste energy looking back at what did or didn’t happen. I’ve found in my own life that, once I’ve created an image of what I want in my head and start to actively pursue it, paths eventually open up. They may not be what I originally envisioned, but there this new opportunity is…and it’s a good one. And in your case, it turned out to even be better than the job you didn’t get. Very cool.

When we interview well, people remember us. And the interview process is going on every second of contact you ever have with them. I have done hiring and sometimes certain people do stand out, and we think about them later when a new opening arises – even if we’ve never heard from them again.

I love that you continued on your quest full force and were surprised with this great job offer. Some people think the energy we put out into the universe opens us up to receiving from more directions than just the one we are looking at right this minute. I’m not absolutely sure about that, but I do know when I get it into my head to go after something and start to think of it as real and if I do it with all my heart – and yes, exert positive, hopeful energy (I know some people read this and cringe at how new-agey it all sounds) – something good usually does come my way. But it doesn’t always happen on my time schedule – and that’s something I have to keep reminding myself. Like most people, I want it NOW! 🙂

Thanks again for your words of encouragement to all of us, Merle. How wonderfully this all worked out for you and your new employer. A testament to patience and hope – and to other forces we know nothing about and have absolutely no control over! )

Good luck!

Ronnie Ann
