Blogging Overload: Do You Give Yourself a Break?

STILL ON BREAK!

I know I’m not alone in this. Blogging can wear on you. Week after week – despite the personal satisfaction it brings and wonderful people you meet – the ever ravenous blog monster (a lot like the plant Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors) starts to eat away at you and, before you realize it, you’ve hit the point of…mwahahahaha…Blogging Overload! (Also known as the Blogging Wall.)

That’s why as of today I am on a break!

I felt it coming a few weeks ago. Maybe even before that. But I kept going thinking the feeling might lift and/or a new burst of Work-Coach-Cafe-specific adrenalin would come to replenish me. But alas…the feeling is still here and grows stronger.

So rather than push and push against the wall until I’m coming ever-increasingly from obligation rather than enjoyment (always a sign to pay attention to I think), I am officially declaring the rest of October not only my birthday month but a blogging holiday. Wuhoo!!!

Aaah. I feel better already.

To all my readers who are looking for answers to questions they left in comments…I’m sorry. Hopefully, other readers or career folks will step in and add their experience and thoughts. Please don’t get me wrong…I know how hard it is for many of you. And I love your stories and comments and yes even your questions. And I love being able to help. It makes me feel great to know something I’ve shared made a difference. But 365 days a year of trying to respond (despite my attempt at a policy of not doing so) to each and every one of your questions – many of them urgently looking for answers as well as much-needed comfort and assurance…well, it starts to wear on a person, even someone like me who wants to help.

So…until November (at least), while I will still schedule pre-written posts for that time period, I will not not be maintaining the blog or answering comments…even comments from my good buddies who visit now and then. (They know where to reach me of course. 😉 )  But I will leave comments open and hope you feel free to keep the conversations going without me.

As for my Twitter buds…I will also be taking a tweet break. Funny about Twitter. It was a big surprise for me. At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it at all and held off for quite some time. But now I gotta say it’s kind of cool.  And aaah…the people. My fellow tweeters. Really generous and caring. And those much-appreciated visits from colleagues add nicely to the discussion. That said…I’ll see you in November too. (Again you know where to reach me if you want to say hi.)

I was once told by another advice blogger that the demand and need never end so you have to remember to take care of yourself.  Some of the best advice I ever got considering the type of blog this is. So with apologies to everyone, this blogging gal is giving herself a break. And it feels great.

See you in November everyone!

What about you? Do you ever hit the blogging wall? (Of course I know there’s a huge job search wall too.) How do you know when it’s time to give yourself a break? And what do you do about it?
